About Great Comet

Natasha, Pierre and the Great Comet of 1812 is an electro-pop opera based on a scandalous slice of Tolstoy’s War and Peace. Great Comet shows the young countess Natasha’s affair with the roguish Anatole, alongside demoralized Pierre’s existential search for the meaning of his life. A large cast of characters bring to life a literary story that is simultaneously intimate and opulent. Great Comet shows us that even though the world can be a dark and scary place, the meaning of life can be found in the small moments of human kindness and connection. It is extraordinarily exciting to be bringing this modern masterpiece back to the Loeb, which housed the original production before its Broadway transfer — and it is a privilege to bring this show to Harvard’s campus, where its themes of youth and hope and kindheartedness feel more timely than ever.

We hope you will join us in bringing Great Comet to life this April.
